HVAC FAQs
How often should I have my heating and cooling equipment serviced?
The general rule of thumb is that your HVAC systems should be serviced before the start of each heating or cooling season. That means you should schedule air conditioner maintenance in the spring and have your heat pump or furnace inspected in the fall.
When should I replace my HVAC filters?
Your air filters should be replaced every 30 to 90 days, depending on the type of filter, usage, allergies, and if you have pets in your home.
Should I be worried about indoor air quality?
Yes, contaminants like allergens, dust, pollution, and mildew can circulate in your home, which affects your family’s health and the structural “health” of your home. We offer a variety of options to improve your indoor air quality.
Do I need to zone my HVAC system?
A zoned HVAC system allows you to more precisely control the heating and cooling in your home, which results in increased comfort, decreased energy bills, and higher overall energy efficiency.
Should I buy a programmable thermostat?
Much like zoning your system, a programmable thermostat allows you to fully customize your home’s heating and cooling and can also help improve energy efficiency and save money on utility bills.
Plumbing FAQs
My water bill is unexpectedly high, but I don’t think we have a leak. What could be causing this?
It’s possible that you have a silent leak in your toilet. Here’s a pretty simple test to confirm: Add a few drops of food coloring to your toilet tank and wait half an hour (make sure no one uses it while you wait). After half an hour has passed, check to see if any of the food coloring is visible in the bowl. If you can see color, call a plumber to schedule service.
What are the benefits of a tankless water heater?
Tankless water heaters never run out of hot water because they don’t rely on a tank to store and heat a limited supply of water. Since there’s no stored water, there’s zero risk of a burst or leaky water heater. You’ll also see lower utility bills, because you’re only using energy to heat water when you need it.
Are there things that I shouldn’t put in my garbage disposal?
Yes, many seemingly harmless food items can severely damage your disposal, including:
- Potato skins
- Fibrous foods, including celery, asparagus, and artichokes
- Bone fragments and eggshells
- Banana peels
- Fats and grease
- Unpopped popcorn kernels
- Onion skins
- Fruit pits and seeds
How can I confirm that I have a water leak in my home?
If you think you have a leak, go to your water meter and record the level. Ensure that no one uses any water for a few hours and return to the meter to check again. If the number has changed, you most likely have a leak.
